See story on page 3, • •# PTA "Raises" Funds; Markets Fertilizer Shortridge clubs and organizations are working to fill their treasuries through the sales program sponsored by the Shortridge PTA. Profits up to $2.00 per Item can be earned on the sale of lawn and garden products, with additional money going to PTA Scholarship and service projects. The administration met last week with student representatives to describe the plan and enlist student salesmen. Many clubs that are currently active wUl be participating. Students from these groups are visiting neighbors and relatives to take orders on a full line of nationally-advertised lawn and garden products Including fertilizers, weed and crabgrass killers, grass seed and products for the control of insects' and other plant pests. Customers may pay when placing the order or at time • of pickup. The sales campaign will extend through March 30. "A salesman who collected an average 100-bag order could earn as much as $112.80 for his club or organization," said Mr. D. C. Vaubel, PTA sponsor for the event. Products will be delivered to the parking lot north of the cafeteria on Sunday, AprU 8. A crew of students and parents,wttl be avaUable between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to help customers load products Into their cars and take final payments. NHS Initiation Initiation of the new members of National Honor Society wul be held tonight at 8:00 p.m. ln the library. It's been a tradition at SHS to invite four members as speakers from the class of ten years ago, which would be 1963 for this year. (Continued on Page 8) CRUCIBLE ANYONE? Miss Marie Van Horn's chemistry IV class, after a successful laboratory on qualitative chemical analysis, is now tackling quantitative analysis. Quantitative analysis calls for the use of crucibles, which must be heated and weighed three times to get a constant weight. These weighings must be made very carefully and accurately because this particular experiment depends on accuracy (0.0001 grams to be exact). Needed (or Driver Ed Students Interested ta driver education for summer school should note—in order to take the course students must have a social security number. The Indianapolis Social Security Office wUl no longer Issue social security numbers. AppUcatlons must be forwarded to the central office ln Baltimore, Maryland. Applications for social secutlty numbers must be made weU in advance. It takes three or four weeks from the time you make a request from Baltimore to obtain your number. Band Concert adds Strings and Choir The 41st Annual Band Sweater- men's Concert wttl be held in Caleb MUls HaU, Friday, March 23, at 8:00 p.m. Five different groups will be performing and students will be receiving letters and sweaters as awards for their services to the music department. The A Band will be playing Cantus Firmus and Fugue—by Francois Couperin, Third Suite—by Robert E. Jager, and WycUffe Variations— by Paul W. Whear. The String Orchestra wttl be playing Concerto in B Minor 1st movement — by Vivaldi, Festllche Musik — by Schroeder, and We've Only Just. Begun—by WiUiams. Along with those mentioned above the Woodwind Choir, the Stage Band, and the B Band wUl be performing. Leonard Behling, head of the music department, and John Medjeski wttl be directing the groups. Tickets are on sale and may be purchased from any band or orchestra member at $1.50. Senior Turnabout Seniors! There are only 8 more days until the Senior Turnabout Dance. There's stUl time to grab a date, find transportation, and purchase tickets. Your neighborhood disc Jockey, Oreg Street, from WTLC wUl be ln the gym for entertainment, Friday, March 30, from 8 to 11 p.m.
