The final score stood at 165-85. The questions were mostly short answer questions. The material covered tended to be miscellaneous bits from general knowledge rather than from specific fields. The Shortridge team showed an aptitude in the sciences and math. History and music also were fields in which the team showed strength. The team's major weakness was In current news. Each individual's contribution was responsible for the victory rather than one's excellence. Doug Smith strengthened the team in history and current events. Bob Evans and Dave Marks were strong in science and mathematics. Andy Gaus filled out the team with knowledge of literature, music, and miscellaneous information. Sunday evening, January 12, the team reported to the WLW- I studios at Meridian and 14th despite a deepening blanket of snow. From 5 to 5:30 both teams wore briefed in a conference room. Following 15 minutes during which the teams were given practice questions, the members and the studio audience were seated in the studio. The moderator of the show, George Willeford, gave a brief history of the "Exercise in Knowledge" series. Now in its fourth season, the series has attempted to glorify or at least publicize the achievements of serious students. "Exercise in Knowledge" is produced by Miss Nancy Hendricks of the Radio and Television department of the Indianapolis Public Schools in cooperation with Bruce Cox of WLW-I. The Shortridge "Exercise in Knowledge" team will meet the winner of this Sunday's contest between Sacred Heart and Decatur Central In second round competition later this year. Cost of New Addition, Wiring Expected To Total $600,000 Cadets Test Skills In Interschool Match Bright and early, while everyone was probably sleeping, the ROTC cadets were up and ready to go to an Interschool Rifle Match at 7 a.m. Thursday, January 16. The match consisted of shooting in three positions: prone, kneeling, and standing. For several weeks officials have been planning the new addition to Shortridge. To be-erect- ed on the Pennsylvania Street side of the present building, the wing is expected to cost $441,697 and to cover 24,686 square feet of ground. Due to rewiring work to be done at the time of construction, the finished project will probably total $600,000. The new section will be joined to the main building by an eight- foot-wide corridor through present room 129 joining a corridor in the new addition running north and south the entire length of the main floor. The entrance to the girls' gymnasium will be extended to the new addition, while the entrances to Caleb Mills Hall and the boys' gym will remain as they are. Shops To Be On Upper Level On the upper level of the new wing there will be two drafting rooms, a stage craft shop, and a woodworking shop. There will also be boys' and girls' restrooms and a departmental office. A loading platform with a sidewalk elevator going down to the lower level and steps running north and south into the lower level will be centered on the east side of the addition. A general metals shop and Industrial craft shop unlike that now located on the third floor will be on the lower floor. A new printshop will be erected on the lower level also Mechanics Shop On Lower Level There also will be an electric and power mechanics shop. This shop will include not only internal combustion engine equipment but also power mower and hydraulic engines. The power and electric mechanics shop will definitely not be an auto repair shop. It is to give pupils experience in working with the type equipment which will enable them to seek the more formal training at a vocational school or technical training leading to a university course. Bookstore To Be In Printshop Room The bookstore now at the southwest corner of the building will be moved to the northwest corner where the printshop is now located. All counselors now in rooms 103 and 313 will be moved to the southwest corner of the first floor where the bookstore and visual aids are now located, room 110. Room 313 will be a study hall in an attempt to remove the cafeteria study hall. R. Lloyd Green, vice principal in charge of curriculum, will have an office in room 109, which is now the business office. Arthur G. Shull; vice principal in charge of school business, will be moved to room 103 which now houses the offices of Mrs. Dorothy Otto, senior class sponsor; Miss Elizabeth Evans, college adviser; Miss Jean Wells, counselor; and Lester Groth, director of guidance.
