SHORTRIDGE I DAILY ECHO Vol. 64, No. 27 Shortridge High School, Indianapolis, Tuesday, October 17, 1981 3 Cents Ad Staff Meets With Dick Jacobs, Manager Adjusting to the times, the Annual staff are financing extra pages in the Annual by the sale of advertisements. Last year's staff devoted 14 pages to advertising to help maintain the high ideals of the book with the rising cost of publications. This year's staff expects to have at least as many ads as did last year's Annual, according to Dick Jacobs, Annual advertising manager. The first meeting of the Annual advertising staff was held Monday, October 16, in room 108 at 3:15. The seniors expected John Allen, Hallie Beacham, Jim Bean, Marsha Becker, Tom Bose, Dennis Chambers, Kjaty Chapman, Nancy Claycombe, Donna Cohen, Rozi Cohen, Susie DerfUnger, Irene Duncan, Karen Durbin, Mark Faith, Donna Rae Faro, Ann Farrell, Judy Ford, Jim Fowler, Jim Fulk. Mary Lou Goldstein, Dianne Gomnes, Linda Hiner, Roger Ings, Bev James, John Jenkins, Kathy 'Johnson,Mu-ewitt King, Linda KRAn, Lwl. Smith III, Wade Stewart, Karyl Stokes, Ann Tanner, and Jack Turner. PATRICIA RAMSEY HEADS FTA Patricia Ramsey was elected president of the Future Teachers of America at the first meeting. Other elected officers are Carolyn Brown, vice-president; Sue Lett, secretary, and Molly Brown, treasurer. FTA meets the first Monday ln each month in room 239. The club is sponsored by Miss Katharine Smith. The dues for membership are 50 cents and the club pins are $1.00. Those students Interested ln the teaching profession are invited to the meetings. Mystery House Feature of Frolic Is Mystery Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Schofield have announced that the Family Frolic will have a mystery house this year. The Schofields are the chairmen of mystery house committee. Members of the committee are Mr. and Mrs. James Bumgarner, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Weathers, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wilson, and Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Schreiber. Senior Night Set for October 20 Senior night is to be held October 20 at the Attucks game at Julius Field, Robert Nipper, athletic director, announced. Seniors will finally have their night. This is something new and Mr. Nipper strongly encourages all seniors to attend. Details of the arrangements will be announced at a later date. Stamp Collectors Buy First Day Covers Members of the Stamp and Coin Club were busy Friday buying First Day Covers. There were approximately 2,000 for the members to choose from. Echo Article to Appear in Purdue Publication Purdue University has asked permission to reprint an article from The Echo in one of its own publications. Sterling Shaw, associate director of admissions, in a letter to the paper comments that he had an opportunity to read "Visits to College Campuses Reveal That All Have Good Food" in the October 5 issue and would like permission to reprint lt in "Purdue Reports to Indiana High Schools," a university publication going to high school college advisers. "I think most of our readers would enjoy it," he states. The article appeared In the regular weekly column, "Senile Senior," by Alice Osier. Seniors May Order Rings October 20 Shortridge seniors are urged by Miss Betty Nicholson, manager of the bookstore, to order class rings October 20 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A $5.00 deposit will be required. JACKSONS HEAD FROLIC INFO BOOTH Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jackson are the chairmen of the information committee for the Family Frolic. Members of the committee are Mr. and Mrs. Marom Elliott, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Williams, and Mrs. Mary Roberts. The information booth will be located by the lockers in front of the Meridian street entrance. Whoever is in the booth will direct anyone to where he wants to go. They will also handle lost and found articles. WIAN to Be Subject of TV Program Saturday Bright lights flooded the WIAN studios last Friday afternoon as films were taken for a television program. These films of the studio and some of the staff members will be shown at 8:30 a.m. Saturday on a WISH program called School Showcase. Program to Depict WIAN Activities The whole 30-mlnute program will show the operation of WIAN and how Its educational programs are used in the elementary schools. Aside from the. regular broadcasts, special programs such as the WIAN football coverages will be mentioned. Miss Nancy Hendricks, radio and TV consultant for the Indianapolis public schools, and A. R. VanAUen, program director for WIAN, will be on the television program to discuss the various aspects of the operation of WIAN. Tom Bose, Tom McDowell, and Jack Turner will tell what working for WIAN has meant to them. Consultants to Show Use of Program Vocal Music Consultants Miss Barbara Beldon, Edward Emery, and Mrs. Louis Miller from the program Sing and Listen will show how this WIAN-produced program is used in elementary classes. An elementary class will be used for the demonstration. The film itself will show the WIAN studios and various staff members working for WIAN. The script called for a boy signing log, boy cueing sign-on, technicians cueing records, a girl announcing Music at Noontime, Jack Turner with soldering iron, Tom McDowell with tapes, Mr. VanAUen signing for transmitter readings, and a girl working at the typewriter. All qualified juniors and seniors, regardless of age, were eligible.
