The performances are hosted by Dance Kaleidoscope in association with Butler University, and are part of White Oak's spring tour. White Oak Dance Project will be presented at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre (on the grounds of the IMA at 1200 W. 38th Street) on Thursday, February 27, at 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 2, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 (main floor) and $35 (balcony). Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster at (317) 239-1000 or the Civic Theatre box office (317) 923-4597. The repertoire includes world premiere by Meg Stuart and the late Erick Hawkins and the revival of a work by Merce Cunningham. The dancers include Raquel Aedo, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Jamie Bishton, Sarah Perron, Emmanuele Phuon, David Porter, Ruthlyn Salomons, Vemon Scott, and Greg Zuccolo. The music is performed by the White Oak Chamber Ensemble whose members are David J. Bursack, violist, Margaret Dugdale, violinist, Ron Oakland, violinist, Nicolas Reveles, pianist, and Wendy Sutter, cellist. The program will include an as-yet untitled premiere ensemble work by Meg Stuart. A 1993 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, Stuart has created numerous evening-length works for her company, DAMAGED GOODS, and for other companies including the Ballet Company of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Germany, and Le Group in Ottawa. In New York her work has been produced by The Kitchen, PS 122, and Judson Church. Also premiering is "Journey of a Poet" by the late choreographer Erick Hawkins. The dance is set to music entitled Disparate Stairway Radical Other Quartet by his long-time collaborator, Lucia Dlugoszewsky. Lighting is by Bob Engstrom. Merce Cunningham's 1953 classic, Septet, is for six dancers and is set to music composed by Erik Satie, Trois Morceau en forme de poire (1903). The design and lighting were created for this revival by David Finn. The costumes were recreated by Suzanne Gallo (The original costumes were by Remy Charlip). Septet was staged for White Oak Dance Project in 1996 by Merce Cunningham, Chris Komar, Robert Swinton, and Carolyn Brown of the Cunningham Dance Foundation. Septet's title refers not to the number of dancers but to the fact that Satie's music is in seven parts. It is one of the last pieces in which Cunningham used "a wholly intuitive procedure" rather than the chance processes that he has used since the early 1950s. more
