DANCE KALEIDOSCOPE DEBUTS CARMINA BURANA
:60
Contemporary dance company Dance Kaleidoscope will debut Artistic Director David Hochoy's full-length ballet
setting of Carl OrfTs Carmina Burana (car-MEE-nah buhr-AH-nah) at concerts at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre
on June 9th, 10th, and 11th.
Carmina Burana is an hour-long work for chorus and orchestra based on 13th-century songs and poems from a
German monastery. The songs are lusty, flirtatious, joyful, and poignant. The Dance Kaleidoscope concert captures these feelings with movement, rich costumes and creative lighting.
Also on the program will be a set of five jazz dances by Billy Siegenfeld (SEE-guhn-feld) and Jeannie Hill. The
music for these jazz dances is by Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington, the Max Roach Quintet, tlie Clifford Brown
Octet, and the Bill Evans Trio.
Carmina Burana will be presented at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre (on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum
of Art) on Friday, June 9th, at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 10th, at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, June 11th, at 2:30 p.m.
Hochoy will present pre-concert talks one-half hour before curtain each concert, plus a post-concert discussion
after Saturday night's performance. Tickets are $16 and $19 for adults and $10 for students, and may be purchased
at the Civic Theatre box office or by calling the Civic at (317) 923-4597.
