Audiences will remember Dance Kaleidoscope for their portrayal of nymphs
and spirits in THE TEMPEST and for
their well-received 1977 spring concert.
The ensemble has performed state-wide
for school children and has recently
danced for the Indiana Dance Alliance
at Clowes Hall. Also this year, a piece
entitled "Fanciful Dancical" was
premiered at The Indianapolis Children's
Museum by the talented company.
Members of the company, Therese
Chatelaine, Deborah Chernin, Michelle
Jarvis, Karen M. Littman, Ginger Martin
and Robin S. Wilson, under the coordination of Artistic Director Cherri Jaffee,
have prepared a seven-piece concert, with
an Indiana premiere and three world
premieres. Noted choreographer Estelle
Spurlock, who was recently seen dancing
the solo "Cry" as a member of the Alvin
Ailey Dance Company at Clowes Hall;
Rachel Harms, a member of the newly
formed Bertram Ross Dance Company;
and Bud Kerwin, Assistant Professor of
Dance at Butler University, have been
commissioned to add to Dance Kaleidoscope's extensive repertoire.
In "Sloe Gin" (Indiana Premiere),
women and their roles are translated into
the language of the body. "Bodyworks"
explores space and texture; and the
strong melodies of George Gershwin are
expressed through the creativity of dance
in "Glimpses of Gershwin." This is but a
part of the varied program to be presented.
Costumes for the concert are by IRT's
resident costume designer, Arnold S.
Irvine, who most recently designed the
costumes for HOW THE OTHER HALF
LOVES. Lights are designed by Joel
Grynheim, who designed last year's
Second Stage production of MISS JULIE
and has served this year as IRT's Stage
Manager.
