The Bates Hendricks Neighborhood Association met Monday, February 4, 2013. President Rob
Uppencamp welcomed everyone.
Kate Voss from SENSE Charter School was present to remind us that enrollment for grades K-6 was
going on right now. On May 3 the school will be sponsoring an “Art Attack.”
Sean White was present from Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA) to give us
information about the future of public transportation in Marion and surrounding counties. This is a
plan with several steps over several years to improve current transportation options and to expand
those options with new modes of transportation. There is a bill in the Indiana General Assembly to
allow voters in the effected counties to decide if this plan will go forward. For further information go to
Indyconnect.org.
Angie Calvert and Lydia Brasher were present to report on the activity of the Southeast Community
Building Task Force. The grant that funded the position of the Southeast Community Organizer will
end this year. Jim Mulholland, who currently holds this position, will serve part time for the remainder
of the year. The Task Force goal was to establish a Community Building Team to continue the work
of monitoring the Southeast Quality of Life Plan and to sustain the Southeast Neighborhood
Congress. At the next Southeast Congress, March 28th, the Task Force will propose the
establishment of the Southeast Community Building Team. Each Southeast neighborhood
association will be asked to send two people to serve on this team and for financial support.
The plan is for the East Street Flats to be completed in March.
The Building Block program received a KIB grant.
Craig DuKate was present to collect dues. Rob reminded us that memberships and sponsorships are
now due. Residential membership: $3 for in individual, $5 for a family. Business Membership: $25
for membership, $25 for sponsorship (logo in newsletter and on website). Money is used to design
and print newsletters and for basic neighborhood expenses. Rob reminded us to patronize our
newsletter/website sponsors.
