The Bates Hendricks Neighborhood Association met Monday, July 1, 2013. President John Winter
welcomed everyone.
IMPD Captain Greg Stanton was present to present a police activity report for our area. Captain
Stanton said there have been a lot of young people out late after curfew and that curfew sweeps were
being conducted. He told us that Village Pantry had offered to host “Coffee With a Cop.” More
information will be coming.
Megan Anderson, from the Sierra Club, was present to talk about the “Indianapolis Beyond Coal
Campaign.” A large amount of power produced in Indiana and especially Indianapolis if from coal.
The movement is to encourage Indianapolis Power and Light to convert from coal to renewable clean
energy.
Katie Dewey, a Manual High School student was present to talk about the West Indianapolis Peace
Park. The community garden project hopes to encourage young people to talk about drugs and
violence and to find other ways to connect with one another. They have a program called Seeds and
the Sidewalk.
John reported on the East Street/Europlastering beautification project that was just finished.
Reconnecting our Waterways had held a meeting to discuss the Barth Avenue/Pleasant Run
Destination project.
John announced that an abandoned housing survey will be conducted in August.
On July 8 an outside group will be coming to work on the Morris/Prospect Triangle.
The Marion County surplus sale will be held July 19th. Bates-Hendricks has twenty-one properties on
the list.
Community Courts is looking for a local supervisor.
Kate Reinhardt was present to collect dues.
