Bates-Hendricks Newsletter 2012 October Fun Time Had by All at Neighborhood Cookout The September meeting of the Bates-Hendricks Neighborhood Association was a cookout in Hendricks Park. It was a beautiful day and the food everyone “pitched in” was fantastic. Lisa Laflin’s cheesecake was very popular. It was fun seeing everyone and being able to visit and catch up. Capt. Greg Stanton from IMPD Southeast conducted roll call at the park and we all had an opportunity to meet the police oficers who watch out for us. Please put us on your calendar to join us next September. Art Squared a Big Hit On Saturday, September 22, three great art events took place in Fountain Square. The theme, “Make Art, Buy Art, Be Art” proved to be a success. MAKE ART – Masterpiece in a Day – a one day art, music, and writing competition gave away cash prizes. BUY ART – Fountain Square Art Fair – provided many booths of creative art and also free music to entertain us. Bates-Hendricks Neighborhood Association even had a booth manned by John Winter to let the visitors know all about us. BE ART – Fountain Square Art Parade – is always a fun experience. It was great visiting with friends, neighbors, and visitors participating for the first time. “America We Remember” to Be in Garfield Park Garfield Park is planned to host the 15th annual “America We Remember” Celebration and Fireworks this year with an added touch of Oktoberfest. The remnants of Hurricane Isaac came through Labor Day weekend, forcing the postponement of the 15th annual “America We Remember” celebration and fireworks. America We Remember has been rescheduled for 6:30pm on Friday, October 19 in Garfield Park’s MacAllister Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s free concert features 7 Bridges, the nation’s premier Eagles tribute band, and will pay tribute to those who have served, and are currently serving, in the five branches of the United States armed services, especially those wounded in action. The free event kicks of with the Indianapolis 500 Gordon Pipers. The patriotic program will also feature the Manual High School Manualaires and Indianapolis’ best fireworks show. A new addition to the event this year is an Oktoberfest Garden, featuring selections from the Sun King Brewing Company, with proceeds going to help programs held within Garfield Park. This is a great opportunity for free, family fun!
