The Bates Hendricks Neighborhood Association met Monday, April 1, 2013. President Rob Uppencamp welcomed everyone. IMPD Officer Jeff Terry was present and presented some crime statistics for the Southeast District. He then answered questions from those present. Lisa Laflin our Mayor’s Neighborhood Liaison was present. She reminded us that Drew Sheler is the Community Resource Officer for the IMPD Southeast District. She also reminded us that IMPD holds a Task Force meeting on the second Thursday of each month, 3 pm at SE District Headquarters, 1150 Shelby Street. The next meeting is Thursday, April 11. The meeting after that is May 9th. These meetings are now held during the months of June, July, and August. Lisa also informed us about Neighbor Power, October 12th at Marion University. This is a forum for neighborhoods to share powerful stories about happenings in their area. She encouraged Bates-Hendricks to enter. Jeff Miller, our City-County Counselor and John Barth, Counselor at Large were present to tell us about streets in our neighborhood that are to be repaved. There was also a discussion about the difficulty of getting permits to build garages in our neighborhood. Treasurer, Craig Dukate was present to present our annual financial report. Beginning Balance (April 2, 2012) 1726.97 Bates-Hendricks 859.45 South New Jersey Street 867.52 Bates-Hendrcks (April 1, 2013) 1162.73 South New Jersey Street 760.58 Petty cash 11.00 Closing Balance (April 1, 2013 1934.31 Next was the election of Directors. Rob announced that Floyd Shoults, Beth Stafford and Craig Dukate had resigned from the board. Additionally Craig had resigned as treasurer. The following directors, having been elected last year for a two year term will be continuing on: Rob Uppencamp and Lydia Brasher. Rob then presented the slate of directors for this year: for re-election, John Winter, Angie Calvert, and Allen Janke. A new nominee was also presented, Kathleen Blackham. This slate was elected unanimously. There was a nomination from the floor to elect Kate Reinhardt to the Board of Directors. She was also elected unanimously. A slate of officers was presented for to serve for the next year: John Winter, President and Lydia Brasher, Secretary. The slate was accepted. Two nominations from the floor were received, Rob Uppencamp, Vice-President and Kate Reinhardt, Treasurer. The nominations were approved and the two were elected. John Winter and Nick Zimmerman surveyed the area boarded by Shelby Street to Beecher to determine if there was an interested in that area joining the Bates-Hendricks Neighborhood Association. John present a motion to include this area and the motion was passed. Rob then presented a power point showing what had happened in Bates-Hendricks the past year. We often forget just how much is going on in our neighborhood.
