Dear Musicians,
A few requests; entreaties; pleas: Our concert is Saturday evening,
November 17. A mere three rehearsals away. Our program will contain the
Orpheus Overture, En Bateau by Debussy, the Hungarian Fantasy (strings only)
which Phil brought in, and Beethoven's Fifth. As if this program were not
challenging enough, we'll probably add a Strauss waltz (Emperor) if the audience is screaming for more. Your attendance at the final rehearsals will
be greatly appreciated by the rest of the orchestra and the composers.
Concerning the audience: it is always enjoyable to play for a large,
appreciative crowd. Let's do our best to have a large turnout for the dinner
as well as the concert. I believe last year we had a hundred reservations
for our orchestra concert. Not only would the large numbers support the orchestra in its music making, but also the restaurant would be appreciative of
the supporting business. The fine meal will probably be served starting at '.:,..:
6:00P.M. and the concert will begin between 8-8:30P.M. Call 635-6336 for
dinner reservations.
Finally the Athenaeum Board has extended a polite and warm invitation
for all orchestra members who so desire to become members of the Athenaeum.
The regular dues for club members is $125, but the dues for members of performing
organizations is $40 per year (beginning in January). There are about six
members of our orchestra who are already members of the Athenaeum, and although
being a member is not a requirement for playing in the orchestra, the Club
could certainly use your support.
I have received even further compliments form the people who attended
the reception concerning the lovely music we provided. Since our final song
finished rather softly (More) some of you were already back in the East Room
packing up when the audience finally realized we were through. So you didn't
see them stand up and applaud.
