Salmon To Play At 2nd Concert
John Salmon, winner of the 1983
Beethoven Audition Fellowship, will
play the second program in the Beethoven Foundation's "Discovery Series" at noon Sept. 22 at Christ
Church Episcopal Cathedral on Monument Circle.
The free, 45-minute concerts are
designed to provide classical music
during the lunch hour for downtown
workers.
Salmon, a fellowship doctoral student at the University of Texas, will
play Haydn's Sonata in E-Flat Major,
Chopin's "Barcarolle" Op. 60 and
Barber's Sonata, Op. 26.
Salmon also will play at "An
Evening in Old Vienna," a benefit for
the Special Olympics, at 8 p.m. Sept.
24 at the Indiana Repertory Theater.
The program, with tax-deductible
tickets priced at $25, will be sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis-Worldwide.
His program of music will be
music romantically or historically
linked to Vienna. It will include
Haydn's Sonata in E-Flat Major, Barber's Sonata for Piano, Op. 26, Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" and two
Viennese waltzes.
Youth Auditions
Auditions for the 100-member
Greater Indianapolis Youth Symphony, sponsored by Butler University's
SHOW TIME
Jordan College of Fine Arts, will be
during September.
Central Indiana and Indianapolis
middle and high school students
should call the Jordan College of
Fine Arts, 283-9231, to schedule an
audition.
The symphony will perform at 2
p.m. Jan. 29 in Clowes Hall and also
will tour. Rehearsals will be held on
Saturday afternoons, beginning in
October.
There will be a $33 membership
fee for the season.
'Pirate' To Play i.U.
Steve Steiner will play the Pirate
King in "The Pirates of Penzance" at
8 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Indiana University Auditorium in Bloomington.
Maria Muldaur will play Mabel
and Lou Valenzi will play Frederic.

Jazz Band Concert
The opening concert of the Indiana University Jazz Band, at 8 p.m.
Thursday in the Musical Arts Center
in Bloomington, will feature music of
Beethoven Audition Fellowship winner John Salmon.
Thelonious Monk, Oliver Nelson,
George Gershwin and Ornette Coleman.
Dave Baker, chairman of the I. U.
jazz department, will conduct the 20-
member band. Three of Baker's compositions are included in the program.

Chilean Pianist To Play
Chilean pianist Edith Fischer will
be a guest performer at 8 p.m. Monday at the Indiana University Musical Arts Center in Bloomington.
She won the Munich International Competition in 1963 and has
played at music festivals in Salzburg,
Austria, and Montreux, Switzerland.
Her concert will be free.
