About the Program: Imagine a world where music begins but never
ends! In this delightful fantasy created by The Indianapolis Brass Quintet,
this dastardly deed has happened! Who could have perpetrated such a
heinous crime? Join the fight with the Indianapolis Brass Quintet and
several famous crime fighters who attempt to solve the riddle of the
"missing chord." Listen and learn about the intricacies of harmonic
structure, cadences, and refresh your memory with the important fact:

Program Outline: Essay for Brass Quintet - DeJong; Prelude -
Holmes; The Car - Hilgeman; Chorale - Bach; Waltz (Die
Fledermaus) - Strauss; Pink Panther - Mancini; Can Can - Offenbach;
Superman - Williams; Also Sprach Zarathustra - Strauss; 5th
Symphony (1st Movement) - Beethoven.
About the Artists: The Indianapolis Brass Quintet has been
performing for Young Audiences of Indiana as a charter member and for the
public for over 20 years. All five artists are members of the Indianapolis
Symphony Orchestra and perform and teach in various capacities in
Indianapolis.
Preparation and follow-up: Students will benefit more by the artists'
visit if they are already acquainted with the brass family, the ranges of
each instrument as compared to size and the way sound is produced and
changed. Discuss with the students the basic differences between melody,
harmony, and rhythm. Listen to music by the various composers listed in
the program outline. Discuss their lives and the times in which they lived.
Special Requirements: P lease provide 5 chairs and music stands for the musicians. P lease
have students seated in a semi-circle on the floor. Thank you!
