NEWS RELEASE
Laura Elmore arid Mrs. James P. White will be attending the National
Conference of Young Audiences, Inc. in New York City this coming week
as representatives of the Indiana chapter of Young Audiences. The conference
will open Sunday evening, Feb. 27, with a Benefit Concert in Carnegie Hall
celebrating the 25th year of Young Audiences, Inc. and honoring Marian
Anderson on her 75th birthday. Miss Anderson has been on the national
Young Audiences Board for a number of years. The concert is under the
patronage of Mrs. Rosalynn Carter and she will attend the benefit with
Miss Anderson. Many well known artists will perform including Shirley
Verrett and Leotyne Price.
Ms. Elmore and Mrs. White will be participants in panel discussions
during the conference. Ms. Elmore will discuss collaborative, projects with
arts institutions and educational agencies, and Mrs. White will sunxnarize
a panel discussion on the use of volunteers in Young Audiences chapters. Those
attending the conference will also have the opportunity to observe programs
presented by ensembles of the New York chapter at New York City schools.
Young Audiences of. INdiana was founded in 1961, and reached over 60,000
children with programs and classroom presentations last year. The artists
who perform under the auspices of Young Audiences of Indiana are: Sonic Boom,
Indianapolis Brass Quintet, Hir Musici, Dance Kaleidoscope, The Indiana Rain-Crows^
