Arts for Learning, the Indiana Affiliate of the Young Audiences, Inc. non-profit organization, was formed in 1961 and has since been empowering children to acheive their creative and intellectual potential through arts in education around the state. Utilizing a diverse, multifaceted approach to involving children with the arts, the affiliate has grown to reach over 61,000 children a year through performances, presentations, and workshops. Programs such as Summer Arts for Youth, the Indiana Artists Showcase, and Chocolate Fest have combined education and entertainment to engage youth around Indiana.
This collection spans the history of the organization in Indana, told through photographs, programs, curriculum, and correspondence. It features numerous arts groups sponsored by the organization, such as Dance Kaleidosope, the Indianapoilis Brass Quintet, and many more. Highlights include photographs and other material related to the National Medal of Arts, which was received by Young Audiences, Inc. in 1994, the first ever awarded. In 2008, Young Audiences of Indiana would also accept the Coming Up Taller Award from the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, and material relating to this and other honors are also included in the collection.
